FRIEDA EKOTTO: THE EXCITING POSSIBILITIES OF “THE UP CYCLED ART MOVEMENT”

As an active supporter of Black History Month, TAMAKKAN celebrates the work of African Americans and others from the BIPOC community who share their amazing initiatives and projects in the areas of Arts, the Environment, Social Enterprises, and Literature. The events, organized every year at the Tamakkan innovation space, attracts members of the community involve community groups, universities and corporations.

In celebration of Black History Month, our speaker will enlighten us about cultural arts in the African diaspora and how it will contribute to the economic development and peace initiatives within Africa. Her belief is that the cultural arts will save Africa from its challenges. She will discuss the e-waste and up cycled art movement in West Africa designed to counter the overflowing e-waste landfills in West Africa.

Dr. Frieda Ekotto has been a Professor of Afroamerican and African Studies and Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan since 1994. She holds a PhD from the University of Minnesota. She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including a Ford Foundation seed grant for research and collaborative work with institutions of higher learning in Africa. She is the author of six books and numerous articles in professional journals

KEITH DURHAM: ELEVATING VALUES THROUGH THE
“PEACE EDUCATION PROGRAM”

Based on Prem Rawat’s international talks, the Peace Education Program is a self-help workshop dealing on topics such as Peace, Appreciation, Inner Strength, Self-Awareness, Clarity, Understanding, Dignity, Choice, Hope, and Contentment. Keith will discuss the curriculum behind this innovative educational program.

Since 2001, Keith has been a trainer assessor and adult instructor. In addition to working in various technical training providers, Keith has delivered trainings and volunteered his time to diverse organizations, such as small community groups and large organizations such as Thames Valley Police, the largest police force in the UK.

His real passion however, has always been with projects that encourage and engage
individuals to strive towards inner self discovery and individual understanding.
